Brought Low by Love - Obadiah 1
We know the love of God in grace, provision, presence, and protection. But there's another way we see it that we rarely name: God's love is also His war on our pride. He tears pride down to rebuild and renew — while the enemy wants it to swell until it consumes you for good. Same demolition. Opposite purpose. And which direction your pride goes is left to you.
The shortest book in the Old Testament — 21 verses against Edom — turns out to be a mirror for every prideful heart. In this message we walk it verse by verse:
God exposes pride (v.1–4) — it's self-deceiving, wall-building, self-exalting
God attacks pride (v.5–9) — He strips it bare, removes the alliances, destroys the wisdom it trusts in
Why pride is such a big deal (v.10–14) — it hurts others, takes from others, preys on the weak
You reap what you sow (v.15–16) — simple justice, a mirror
Brought low, and the kingdom restored (v.17–20) — we think we're David; we're often Saul
No savior for pride, deliverance for the humble (v.21) — "and the kingdom shall be the Lord's"
You will be brought low — by pride, or by grace. One breaks you and leaves you in the rubble. The other breaks you and builds you back. Choose the fall that has a resurrection in it.
