Romans 6 - Sanctification Part 1
Calvary Life NYC
GROWING UNDONE: A Study in Romans
Sermon 7: "Sanctification: The Evidence of Faith – Dead to Sin, Alive to God"
Romans 6:1-23
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" — Romans 6:1-2
FROM POSITION TO PRACTICE
For three chapters (Romans 3-5), Paul revealed our new position in Christ: justified, reconciled, at peace with God.
Now comes the question every believer asks: If I'm saved by grace through faith apart from works, does my behavior matter?
If sin can't help me earn salvation, can sin hurt me? If less sin doesn't make me more saved, why not live how I want?
Paul's answer is shocking: You died to sin.
IN THIS MESSAGE:
⚰️ Baptized into His Death: Your old life is buried with Christ
🌅 Raised to New Life: You have power to walk in newness of life
🔗 United with Christ: What is true of Him is true of you
💀 Reckon Yourself Dead: Not pretend—act on what is already true
👑 Sin Shall Not Have Dominion: You are not under law but under grace
💰 Wages vs. Gift: Death is earned; eternal life is given
THE GREAT CONTRAST:
Old Master: SinNew Master: RighteousnessWages: DeathGift: Eternal LifeFruit: ShameFruit: HolinessEnd: DestructionEnd: Everlasting Life
KEY TRUTH:
"Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace."
The law says "do this"—but gives no power.
Grace says "you are free"—and provides the power to live in that freedom.
THE QUESTION:
You say you have faith. Does your life match what you say?
Sheep may fall into mud, but they will not wallow in it like pigs.
They want to get out and get cleaned.
What do you want?
